About Backus Locker
Owned and operated by Dave and Jan Schmid, our old-fashioned locker and butcher shop provides custom meat processing and an expansive selection of fresh deli meat, brats, sausages, jerky, cheese, and more. We welcome residents and visitors in Backus, MN, and the surrounding areas to join us.
Our Story
Dave and Jan took over the Locker in 1987, moving it to bigger heights with their wide selection of meats and sausage; you’ll surely find something to satisfy your taste buds. From Jans Smoked Hams, a homemade mixed blend of wood smoked in an old-fashioned smokehouse for that ultimate flavor, to Choice Aged Steaks, or Dave’s popular lean ground beef.
We are one of the very few slaughterhouses that will still go to your farm to do a slaughter and pickup. We are always on call for any emergencies that you have as we all know they happen!
Dave and Jan’s favorite thing about being in the local community for so long is getting to know the many generations of customers who come through the door. It brings them much joy to continue this legacy!
